Our Small Business Snapshot series features photos that represent, in just one image, what the small businesses we feature are all about. Willan Johnson, CEO of VivoAquatics, explains how this image represents his business.
VivoAquatics provides recreational water (i.e., pools, spas, fountains, lakes, splash pads) management solutions to leading hospitality destinations, water parks and municipalities. Our goal is to help our clients improve guest safety and satisfaction while lowering operating costs, reducing water and energy use, and creating a more sustainable property through state-of the-art aquatic systems.
My background in technology (with leadership roles at Overture, Yahoo! and TrueX Media) opened my eyes to industry disruption and the application of new systems. I was intrigued by the idea of bringing new technology to a more traditional service-based industry. At the same time, the management of water was becoming a more critical issue. The drought in California and other markets has created water scarcity not seen in recent times. Legionella outbreaks and other diseases like Crypto led the CDC to start establishing a higher standard of water management. Finally, I had the opportunity to meet a number of aquatics professionals who were passionate about driving change in the industry. Through the input of these factors, we launched VivoAquatics.
Today, VivoAquatics is helping manage water at many of the world's leading resorts and properties. You will find our systems on such properties as the Bellagio, Sheraton Waikiki, St. Regis Kauai, Aria and many more global brands and properties.
While hospitality brands have traditionally loved consistency and brand standards in the front-of-house, these same standards have not been utilized in back-of-house operations. We are working with engineering teams around the world to introduce and implement new solutions that can create a shift in how water is managed.
Our core technology, VivoPoint, automatically controls water chemistry, provides 24/7 remote monitoring and enhances staff efficiency through a set of hardware and software packages. For instance, many resorts are finding they can reduce the management of dangerous chemicals through innovative on-site chlorination systems. Other properties are finding ways to save water through back-wash reclamation systems. Our role is to help define the standard, create the benchmark for performance and then implement the systems to meet the required objectives.
We remain focused on identifying new solutions to help our clients meet their objectives. The success of our VivoPoint platform has generated interest from clients in new geographies (as far as the Middle East and Africa) and new industry segments. As a result, our biggest challenge is staying focused while building the business.
Our company culture is to take chances and constantly invest in innovation. We need to continue to balance that culture with an operational focus to target the biggest opportunities.
