Whereas many GPS fleet tracking apps limit capabilities to just the very basics, GPSTrackIt is a full-featured app that has everything you need to monitor vehicles and drivers anytime, anywhere from iOS or Android devices. We also like that the company doesn't have a minimum-entry requirement (most vendors require anywhere from five to 10 vehicles to get started), making it a great choice for small businesses.

We like GPSTrackIt because it offers affordable, small-business-friendly pricing. While most providers make you choose from among different service packages with fixed monthly fees, GPSTrackIt offers custom solutions with pricing options.

There are two benefits to this model: First, this gives you the freedom and flexibility to build the software and hardware to your business's unique needs; second, you don't have to pay for features you don't use. That means you not only can create the perfect GPS fleet-tracking software for your business, but can also save a ton of money.

Both the iOS and Android apps have very user-friendly layouts with intuitive navigation. The apps feature simple menu tabs and arrows, making it easy to access different functions and figure out how to get around the app. We also like that the main features — such as Maps, Vehicles, Geofences and Vehicle History — are clearly highlighted and labeled for one-click access to the most important and frequently accessed data.

Additionally, we appreciate that maps are optimized for mobile viewing, which allows you to view multiple vehicles, routes and locations without all the clutter, especially on a small screen (more on this below).

Although we found the app very easy to use, we like that GPSTrackIt offers free, unlimited training that's customized to your specific needs and how your software is built.

GPSTrackIt is also easy to install. The company's representative told us that the system comes with plug-and-play hardware that can be installed with just a few steps, but the company or a local specialist can install the system for you, too.

Many GPS fleet-tracking software choices have a mobile app, but that doesn't mean they are fully functional. Whereas many vendors limit capabilities on mobile versions of their software, GPSTrackIt's iOS and Android apps give you all the features you need for on-the-go access to your fleet and drivers.

Like its competitors, GPSTrackIt's mobile app comes with basic vehicle and driver monitoring features. This includes the ability to locate vehicles, keep track of vehicle conditions such as fuel consumption and maintenance issues, and monitor driving behaviors like driving speeds, habits, aggressive behaviors, idle times and more.

What makes GPSTrackIt's mobile app different is that it's not limited to just the above features. It is a complete GPS tracking app that incorporates both GPS hardware data and fleet-management software, so you can pretty much run your entire fleet straight from your iOS or Android device.

Here are just some of the features that make GPSTrackIt stand out from other GPS fleet-tracking mobile apps:

Customized alerts. You don't have to log in to the desktop or Web version of the software to set alerts. GPSTrackIt's mobile app lets you set up all types of real-time notifications, so you're always on top of things and can make sure your fleet performs at its best. Alerts include:

We like that there are several ways to reach GPSTrackIt. If you need to contact a customer service representative or tech support, you can give them a call using a toll-free number, send an email, or chat with them via the live-chat client anywhere on the company's website. You can also connect with the company on LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook.

In our experience, GPSTrackIt's representative was friendly and eager to answer our many questions about GPS fleet-tracking software and whether GPSTrackIt was right for us. For fun, we also tried the chat client from the company's home page. It was convenient that the live-chat feature automatically popped up during business hours, with a representative asking if we needed help. We were also impressed that the rep followed up on our inquiries as we continued to browse the website.

If you'd like to learn more about the service or would like to troubleshoot issues on your own, the GPSTrackIt website also has an FAQ page, a blog, a collection of resource articles and free demo videos. And if you need help using the system, GPSTrackIt additionally comes with unlimited one-on-one training for you and your staff.

It's worth highlighting that GPSTrackIt offers tech support and training at no additional cost, which is a great perk compared to similar vendors that charge extra or require more-expensive packages for these services.

We're not fans of being locked down into a service, so GPSTrackIt lost major points for requiring a long-term contract.

To be fair, its contract terms are much favorable than industry standards. Most vendors require a multi-year service contract that starts at anywhere from three to five years, and comes with hefty early termination fees — around $300 to start, plus various equipment fees — if you decide to stop or switch to a different service.

GPSTrackIt, on the other hand, comes with flexible options. You can choose from among a one-, two- or three-year contract with no early termination fees. To cut the contract short, just return working equipment at no extra cost. If equipment is broken, you'll have to pay $150 per nonworking unit to get out of the contract.

Another drawback to using GPSTrackIt is its limited customer-support hours. The company offers 24/7 support by email, but if you need immediate help outside of work hours, you won't always be able to reach a live person the moment you need one.

For instance, the company's tech support is available every day, but only from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. PST on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends. Similarly, customer service and billing are only available from Monday to Friday from 7 a.m to 4 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., respectively. 

This may be a huge deal breaker for some businesses, particularly those that operate outside of regular working hours and need the peace of mind of 24/7 live support.
