Lenovo Unveils 9 New ThinkPad Business Laptops for 2017

Lenovo Unveils 9 New ThinkPad Business Laptops for 2017

Lenovo is hoping a new lineup of ThinkPad laptops will make you more productive in 2017. The updated PCs that were announced this week range from budget-priced work notebooks to sleek, premium 2-in-1s.

The notebooks look to be cut from the familiar ThinkPad cloth, with features that include strong security and industry-leading keyboards. But expect faster performance and slimmer, more portable designs, among other improvements such as 7th generation Intel Core processors and Thunderbolt 3 ports. Though this isn't an exhaustive list of the new ThinkPads coming in 2017, we've put together a list of the systems we're most excited about.

Starting Price: $914

Release Date: February 2017

Key Specs:

  • 14 inch, 1920 x 1080p display
  • Thunderbolt 3 port
  • Up to 1TB SSD storage
  • Nvidia GeForce 940MX graphics

The T470 is an update to our current favorite business laptop, the Lenovo ThinkPad T460. The new system is slightly thinner and lighter, and offers faster performance than last year's model. It also provides stronger security, thanks to an improved one-touch fingerprint reader and facial-recognition technology, so you can log on just by looking at your webcam.

Starting Price: $909

Available: March 2017

Key Specs:

  • 15.6 inch, up to 4K display
  • Thunderbolt 3 port
  • Optional IR camera
  • GeForce 940MX graphics
  • Up to 1TB SSD storage

The Lenovo ThinkPad T570 — the update to last year's T560 — is a 15-inch laptop without the bulk. Lenovo said that, at 4.4 lbs., the system is 8 percent lighter than last year's model, as well as 10 percent thinner. And it's available with discrete graphics options for designers who need some extra graphical oomph.

Starting Price: $909

Release Date: March 2017

Key Specs:

  • 12.5 inch, up to 1080p screen
  • USB Type-C Port
  • Up to 2TB HDD or 512GB SSD storage
  • Up to 16GB of RAM

The ThinkPad X270 replaces last year's X260, which happened to be the longest-lasting laptop we tested in all of 2016, with more than 17 hours of battery life. The X270 comes with a more efficient processor, so in theory it might last even longer on a charge. You also get faster storage and a USB-C port.

Starting Price: $799 / $809

Release Date: March 2017

Key Specs

  • 14 inch or 15.6 inch, up to 1920 x 1080p display
  • Hard drive or optional SSD storage

Lenovo is refreshing its more affordable business laptops with the ThinkPad L470 and L570, which replace last year's L460 and L560, respectively. The systems are getting a few upgrades this year, including faster PCIe SSD storage, which will make for snappier multitasking. They aren't as portable as the T-series ThinkPads, though, and lack premium features like Thunderbolt 3 and USB Type-C ports.

Starting Price: $1,264

Release Date: March 2017

Key Specs

  • 13.3 inch, 1920 x 1080p display
  • Active stylus (included)
  • Thunderbolt 3 port
  • Up to 16GB of RAM
  • Up to 1TB SSD storage
  • Silver or black color

The ThinkPad Yoga 370 isn't as slim as the ThinkPad X1 Yoga, but it boasts the same folding, 360-degree hinge. It comes with a stylus that slides out of a slot on the system's right edge for quick note taking.

Starting Price: $1,099

Available: February 2017

Key Specs

  • 14 inch, up to WQHD screen
  • Thunderbolt 3
  • Silver or black color

A slimmer version of the T470, the T470s looks to be a great pick for road warriors who can't be weighed down by a bulky laptop. The system boasts most of the same features as the T470, including strong security and a durable design. But the trade-off for the slimmer design is that it won't last as long on a charge as the standard T470.

Starting Price: $1,049

Available: March 2017

Key Specs

  • 14 inch, up to WQHD display
  • Nvidia GeForce 940MX graphics
  • Up to 1GB SSD storage

Another variant of the ThinkPad T470, the T470p is a similar system that offers more powerful performance. The T470p includes options with discrete graphics, which is good news for designers and artists. Of course, the extra power makes it a bit heftier — and pricier — than the standard T470.

Starting Price: $674

Available: January 2017

Key Specs:

  • 13.3 inch, up to 1080p touch screen
  • Optional backlit keyboard
  • USB Type-C port
  • Up to 512GB SSD storage
  • Up to 32GB of RAM
  • Silver or black color

Last year’s ThinkPad 13 was already our favorite budget-priced business laptop, offering strong security and durability credentials despite its low price. Now updated, this bargain 13-inch system has been refreshed with faster performance and perks like a USB-C port and an optional backlit keyboard.
