Our Small Business Snapshot series features photos that represent, in just one image, what the small businesses we feature are all about. Jitu Patel, founder and owner of GitaDini, whose company transforms traditional Indian kitchen and home accessories and updates them, explains how this picture represents the business.
This photo was taken during our daughter's wedding two years ago. My wife and I, who founded the GitaDini in 2012, are both from India, and our daughter, though fully immersed in the American way of life, opted for a traditional Indian wedding.
The wedding was a perfect "East meets West" experience. We took what's best from traditional Indian ceremonies and gave them a touch of Western modernity and practicality. We're doing the exact same thing in our business. We take traditional Indian kitchen and home accessories and bring them up-to-date by using the best and most practical materials possible. GitaDini sells kitchen and home decor accessories, including the OTTO Storage Stools pictured above.
GitaDini was started after selling our first company, a very successful homewares business specializing in kitchen and bathroom accessories made from stainless steel. There came a point where we decided we wanted to sell directly to the public. This gave us the chance to go back to basics and concentrate on developing the best product possible.
What makes us really proud is the fact that our Otto Storage Stools are made in the USA. We set out to prove that it was possible to produce an item like a plastic storage stool affordably in the US; and we succeeded.
