Our Small Business Snapshot series features photos that represent, in just one image, what the small businesses we feature are all about. Elyse McNabb, owner of Nourish With Style, a business founded in 2012 that sells refillable baby food pouches, explains how this image represents her business.
I love this picture because my daughter was 2 years old at the time, I was 8 months pregnant and we fit the shoot in a week before my son was born. My daughter wanted to help fill the pouches and the concentration she used to complete her task is written on her face — especially with her tongue sticking out for extra concentration value! These reusable baby food pouches were made for her, used by her and now are filled and sealed by her.
Our baby food pouches that have a bottom zip closure for easy filling and cleaning. It was an idea that struck me when my daughter was younger and she was constantly eating the pre-filled store bought pouches. This bothered me for two reasons: First, they were very expensive given the quantity that she could eat, and second, I usually made all her baby food, which was going to waste. I wanted to create a cute, affordable, refillable baby food pouch that I could use to feed her, and our company Nourish with Style was born.
It was an excruciating process to go from an idea that didn't exist and find a manufacturing facility willing to retool some things to make my dream a reality, but we were blessed after much, much searching to find just such a company. Once we found the manufacturing facility we ordered the minimum quantity, and prayed we had a solid design that would be translated properly into reality. A few years later we are going strong and a few tweaks here and there have led to a great product that we are very proud of.
The biggest challenge our business faces right now is that we sell globally to a very niche market which makes marketing and advertising a fun challenge. We also recently applied to be on "Shark Tank" and hope to appear on the show soon.
