Joel Holland, CEO and founder of VideoBlocks, a company founded in 2009 that creates and provides subscribers with stock video content, explains how this image represents his business.

Holland explains...

This photo captures the joy I feel traveling around the world shooting video clips for VideoBlocks. We have over 6,000 amazing videographers shooting stock video for us, and I’m fortunate to count myself among them. Our goal is to capture all types of video, not just the big cities and obvious locations. Here, I’m standing on top of my RV in middle of the desert, on a road trip across the country to grab interesting shots that our competitors might skip over.

When I was in high school, I was working with a non-profit to create inspirational career videos for students. With almost no budget, we couldn’t afford to spice up our project with stock footage, like aerial shots from a helicopter, for example — and it was frustrating. I channeled this frustration, took a year off between high school and college, and started VideoBlocks to provide premium creative content that everyone can afford.

Today, VideoBlocks has over 100,000 paying subscribers who download over 1,000,000 stock video clips each month for use in all types of projects, from TV shows to advertisements to wedding videos and even home movies. We provide a wide variety of video clips, including special effects and explosions, US and international locations, motion backgrounds and much more. Anyone can upload and start selling for free, and since we make our money from membership dues, we pay our contributors 100 percent of the profit when their video clips sell through our marketplace.

The creative world is growing very quickly, and our biggest challenge is educating content creators who aren’t aware that premium stock video can be affordable. Many people associate stock media with companies like Getty, and assume it is going to cost thousands of dollars to buy a basic stock video clip. We have our work cut out to change this perception.
