Office 2016 is well into its beta period, with 1 million users already trying out the Windows Preview version. Now, Microsoft has added even more features that are particularly useful for business users.

The company has updated Office 2016 Preview with features that aim to make collaboration easier for users. These new capabilities help users see and track changes in real time and are tied closely across the Office platform from Word to OneDrive and even Outlook.

Here's what the Office 2016 Preview updates have to offer and how they can help your business. [Microsoft Office 2016: New Features for Business]

Real-time typing

One of the biggest challenges to collaborating online is knowing who is editing which part of a shared file. The New Real Time Typing feature aims to solve this by letting users see where in a document a team member is currently editing, saving them time by instantly pinpointing changes as they happen.

Microsoft says Real Time Typing will first be accessible to OneDrive for Business subscribers before wider availability.

Simpler file sharing

Another issue with online collaboration is that it often takes several steps to share files. For instance, some services require users to open an app or integrate the service into their system, followed by several clicks to upload files into the cloud.

The new Office 2016 update simplifies the process by adding a Share button to the Ribbon toolbar. This Share button provides one-step sharing, making it easy to share files just by clicking on it.

Version history

Microsoft has also made it easier and faster to find older versions of shared documents. Whereas some services replace edited files with the most recent changes or archive them into folders that are hard to find, Office 2016 Preview stores previous file versions and its new History feature lets you access them without having to do any digging. Just click 'History' in the File menu to view unedited or previously edited files.
