Priceline Woos Business Travelers by Offering More Freebies

Savvy business travelers have long known they can save a buck or two by using Priceline.com's name-your-own-price service. But now the company has sweetened the pot by expanding its database of hotel freebies that users can mine to score valuable hotel extras.

Those free extras — including free nights, free breakfasts, free parking and room discounts and upgrades — are increasingly helping road warriors maximize their creature comforts while away from home without breaking their company’s budget .

Priceline has added more than 150,000 freebies to its popular Hotel Freebies program, bringing the total free offerings to more than 200,000. Free Internet access has also been added to the mix.

There are two ways that customers can save money with Priceline, said Tim Gordon, a Priceline senior vice president.

“They have Priceline’s Name Your Own Price hotel service with savings up to 60 percent,” Gordon said. “Or, if they prefer to choose a specific hotel, they can mine our Hotel Freebies service to find the hotel that has the particular freebies they want.”

Based on Priceline searches, the top sought-after freebie among hotel guests is free nights, followed by room discounts, free breakfast, free Internet access and free parking.

The Hotel Freebies program has two ways of filtering hotel offers. Users can filter by desired freebie and the service will retrieve all of the hotels in the database that are offering that particular freebie.

Customers can also filter by city, and the service will retrieve the hotels in that city that are offering any type of freebie. Freebies will be listed along with the lowest room rate found by a Priceline customer in a recent search. The list can be then be refined by a specific type of freebie.
