Sharp Aquos Crystal: Is it Good for Business?

Sharp's Aquos Crystal, business smartphone

The Sharp Aquos Crystal is a big, sleek smartphone you can get for cheap. The budget handset offers a striking edge-to-edge screen and premium good looks, without the premium price. But it has the shortcomings you expect from a budget phone, including an older processor and lackluster battery life. Check out a full review of the Sharp Aquos Crystal at our sister site Laptop Mag, or read on to see how it performs as a work phone.

  • Large display: The Aquos Crystal sports a large 5-inch display, a feature you won't find on many smartphones at this price point. A big screen is great for screen-intensive productivity tasks like viewing or editing a spreadsheet.
  • Premium design: It's also pretty sleek for a budget smartphone. The Crystal sports an eye-catching edge-to-edge display with razor-thin bezels, which also makes the phone easier to grip.
  • Value: The Crystal is a pretty affordable smartphone, so it's a good pick for budget-minded business users. You can get it through Sprint with a payment plan of $10 per month for 24 months, or go off- contract and buy it for $149 upfront through Virgin or Boost Mobile.

  • Short battery life: The Crystal lasted just 7 hours and 8 minutes in our battery test, which involves continuous Web browsing. That's more than an hour below the smartphone average of 8 hours and 30 minutes. With average use, however, it should still last through the end of most work days.
  • Limited storage: Business users are sure to fill up the Crystal's meager 8GB of onboard storage in a hurry. On the bright side, it includes a micro SD card slot, which can expand its storage by up to 128GB.
  • Quiet speaker: The Crystal's external speaker is disappointingly quiet, which affects its speakerphone capabilities. That's something to consider if you use your smartphone to take conference calls.

The Aquos Crystal is a good bargain, offering a big display and sleek design at a low price. On the other hand, it's not as fast as newer flagship phones, and its battery life is lacking. Regardless, it's a solid pick for business users on a budget.
