Acer Chromebook 13: Is it Good for Business?

Acer Chromebook 13, laptops, computers, technology

Acer's new Chromebook 13 is an affordable business notebook with a sharp HD display. The 13-inch machine boasts an attractive minimalist design and a comfortable keyboard, making it a solid pick for productivity. Hardware highlights include a zippy quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage, plus a high-res 1920 x 1080-pixel screen.

The Acer Chromebook 13 runs on Chrome OS, a browser-based operating system developed by Google. It's not compatible with Windows or Mac software, so it's not a good pick for business users who rely on a particular type of software made for those platforms. But it's more than capable of handling basic tasks such as managing an email inbox, creating and editing documents, and browsing the Web. Check out a full review of the Chromebook 13 on our sister site Laptop Mag, or read on for three reasons it's good for work.

HD display

Acer's Chromebook 13 packs a 13-inch HD display that gives you more room to work on than the average 11-inch Chromebook. The high-res display also lets you display more content on-screen at once. And at just 3.1 lbs., the device strikes a good balance between portability and productivity.

Chrome OS upgrades

Compared to other desktop operating systems, Chrome OS is a bit limited. But a slew of updates coming this year are set to make it better for business. The changes include security enhancements, including the ability to wirelessly connect your Chromebook to your Android smartphone, so your notebook automatically unlocks when your phone is nearby. Another big upgrade is better support for offline apps, and a new feature that lets you view and respond to smartphone text messages right on your Chromebook.

Like most Chromebooks, Acer's machine delivers a pretty good bang for your buck. It starts at $300, and you can double the RAM and storage space for $80 more. Alternatively, you can downgrade to a lower-res 1366 x 768-pixel screen to save $20. Those price points make the Acer Chromebook 13 a good pick for budget-minded business users.
