Nokia’s first Windows tablet launches this week with a slew of business-friendly features.
The Nokia Lumia 2520, which boasts a sharp 10.1-inch display, hits store shelves Friday (Nov. 22).
Because it runs on Windows RT 8.1, it lacks the desktop functionality found in pricier Windows tablets like Microsoft’s new Surface Pro 2. That means users of the Lumia 2520 or Surface 2 will have to rely on mobile Windows 8 apps.
Still, the tablet is a business-ready device at a relatively affordable $499 price point. Read on for the top three business features of the Nokia Lumia 2520.
1. Snap-on keyboard
Forget about Bluetooth keyboards. The Lumia 2520 will launch with the optional snap-on Power Keyboard that doubles as a screen cover, similar to the sturdy Type Cover 2 that launched with Microsoft’s new Surface tablets. Like Microsoft’s keyboard add-on, Nokia’s Power Keyboard boosts your tablet’s battery life.
2. Office apps come preinstalled
Nokia’s new Lumia tablet ships with Microsoft’s best productivity applications already installed. That includes Outlook for email as well as the full Office 2013 suite, which includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Users of more expensive Windows 8.1 tablets like the Surface Pro 2 must purchase those apps separately.
3. Slim, light design
At just 1.4 lbs., the Lumia 2520 is on the slimmer end of Windows tablet spectrum. That makes it a highly portable business device and a good pick for commuters and frequent travelers.
