Company Facebook Pages Get Festive for the Holidays

A majority of companies with Facebook Pages are putting on a festive face for the holidays. More than two out of three of page administrators polled in a recent survey said they were decorating their Facebook Pages for the holidays.

And they’re backing up that festive feeling by offering goodies to their followers; over half of administrators told pollsters that they are offering discounts, special offers or coupons to their Facebook fans .

The most popular way to deck the social halls this year is updating a company's Facebook Page profile picture (36.2 percent), said Shortstack, a developer of custom applications for Facebook Pages. Nearly 30 percent of companies polled said they will update their custom tabs to a holiday theme and 28.4 percent plan on posting holiday pictures.

The more than 1,000 companies that Shortstack polled in its user base in November said they would be treating their fans to holiday discounts of up to 61 percent, special offers and coupons, with the most common discounts ranging from 11 percent to 25 percent.

Nearly as many companies will be celebrating the holidays on their Facebook Pages by running special contests or sweepstakes. Holiday sweepstakes are the most popular (49.9 percent), followed by holiday photo contests, holiday video contests and essay contests.

Not to be lost in the numbers are the Pages bringing the true Christmas spirit to Facebook by helping those in need. One company said it was making a donation to a charitable cause for every 100 new fans, while another is offering an exclusive coupon that will trigger a $5 donation to a soup kitchen when redeemed.
