Strong sales by their clients in early November is leading one e-commerce software provider to predict big things for online businesses this holiday season.
ChannelAdvisor, an e-commerce software provider, revealed that its customers’ same-store sales have grown nearly 30 percent this month compared with the same time last year.
Specifically, the study revealed that online retailers using Amazon to sell their wares saw a 65 percent increase over last year, with those on eBay seeing a nearly 20 percent increase.
Retailers using paid-search solutions also saw sales increases of nearly 50 percent, according to ChannelAdvisor.
Based on those early numbers, ChannelAdvisor CEO Scot Wingo said he's anticipating e-commerce growth of more than 15 percent this holiday season.
"Early online promotions have been effective, and I think this trend will continue throughout the 31 shopping days between Black Friday and Christmas Eve, creating a record-breaking holiday season for e-commerce," Wingo said.
Wingo cites the rise in mobile and tablet shopping as an influential factor in the current growth for online retailers.
In the first three weeks of November, sales on tablet and mobile devices increased almost 20 percent over October.
This “couch commerce” trend has developed as more shoppers choose not to fight the holiday crowds and instead shop online from the comfort of their homes, Wingo said.
