Interested in opening a franchise, but not sure which one is right for you? IFX, a strategic consulting firm that specializes in franchises, recently launched a new arm of the business, IFX-E. It helps individuals, investing groups and suppliers choose the franchise that's best for them.
Dan Martin, president and CEO of IFX, gives BusinessNewsDaily readers a few pieces of advice on choosing a franchise .
Figure out your true budget. — Speak with all potential franchises you are considering to determine actual costs outside of the initial fees and make sure you can help make the franchise a success.
Does the brand meet all of my needs as a franchisee? — Do they have enough support available to you, especially in the areas you don't have a lot of experience?
What is my goal? — Depending on your own personal goals, different franchises can offer you different results. Is your goal to make money, spend more time at home or take an entrepreneurial step in your career? By figuring out your actual goals, you will be able to determine what franchise is a good fit to help you meet those goals.
What type of owner do I want to be? — There are two major types of owners: Absentee and owner/operator. If you are the type of person who wants to be working in the kitchen, or greeting customers, or hiring staff , then you should find a franchisor that encourages these types of owners rather than franchisors that expect absentee owners.
What is my experience? — At this time, franchisors are looking for so much more than just a person's ability to pay the fees. They are determining if your past in business or sales will help you make the business a success. So look at your previous experience and decide what type of franchise may be a good direction.
