PopUp Profile: Big Girl Cosmetics

PopUp Profile: Big Girl Cosmetics

BusinessNewsDaily meets lots of entrepreneurs. We always find that learning about the person is as much fun as learning about their business. Our PopUp Profiles go beyond the bottom line to learn what makes them tick.

Kiley Russell is the founder and CEO of Big Girl Cosmetics, a cosmetic company for multiethnic women. She tells us who inspired her to become an entrepreneur and what she thinks is the next big thing.

What does your company do? Big Girl Cosmetics is a cosmetic and skincare company for multiethnic women in search of hip, urban and complementary makeup. We offer an alternative to your mom's makeup, -- still mineral based but a bit more funky!

What was your first job? My first job was as an artist at Gallery 37, a City of Chicago program for young artists.

What was your worst job? I don't think I ever had a bad job. I always tried to enjoy any job I worked.

Who inspired you to become an entrepreneur? That's a hard question. My mother has always been pretty resourceful and figured out creative ways to "make things work" with what she had. I watched her sell everything from art to Tupperware!

What one person, dead or living, would you have on your fantasy board of directors? I would love to have Oprah Winfrey on my board of directors. I admire her commitment to stay true to oneself and her open mindedness to accept people as who and where they are.

Social Media: Godsend or Evil Distraction? For businesses that can understand how to harness the power of social media it is a Godsend.

What did you eat for breakfast this morning? I had a protein shake and a slice of sprouted wheat toast.

What's your ideal retirement? I used to think I would retire and live on a farm with my family, a few horses and lots of dogs. These days I look forward to a Saturday to sleep until nine am.

Lefty or righty? Righty

Why do you do what you do? I enjoy making people feel and look their best. Something about a body butter or lip gloss that makes you feel all warm and tingly inside.

What's the next big thing? We are gearing up for Macy's and other major retailers in the next year or so.

What one thing does your company do really well? We have a unique ability to listen to our customers. We request their feedback and then do the unthinkable, listen.

What one thing could you improve on? I believe I need improvement in slowing down. I am so excited to introduce Big Girl to the world I can work all day and night.

If you could be CEO of any company for just one day, what company would you choose? Rush Communications

Who does the best job at branding their product? McDonald's... they have mastered it hands down.
